How do you select the best air conditioning unit?
The best air conditioners for your home or office depend a lot on the amount of space that you intend to cool with just one unit. It also depends on the usual climate of the region that you are situated and the usual temperature of the room. There are different types of air conditioning units and the above factors will help in the decision of selecting the best unit for you.
The common AC units are air cooled AC units which utilizes air to cool the compressors and condenser coil that liquidizes the refrigerant gas. These are split systems with one part inside the room to be cooled and the compressor section and the condenser coil being placed outside. The inside system has an evaporator cooling coil that works alongside the blower and the duct system.
The water cooled air conditioning systems are also widely used as they work similarly to the air cooled AC units. The difference is that they use water as a coolant to reduce the heat in the high temperature gas in the compressor or condenser unit.
Another type of AC unit is the Evaporative coolers. These are also known as swamp coolers and they operate by evaporating water to cool air, as opposed to using a refrigerant moving through cooling coils. This has the effect of setting up a regular fan in front a basin of water and having the fan evaporate the water into cool air in the room, but on a much larger scale with more sophistication. These can be considered as the best air conditioners for areas where the humidity is low enough to accommodate easy evaporation; otherwise it may not function effectively. It is also more energy efficient than other AC models when used in these areas.
Another type of Air Conditioning system is the Gas Chiller models. These systems operate in a similar manner as the aforementioned units with the exception of the compression. Instead of using compression to change the refrigerant gas, it uses heat and as such does not have the need for an outside compressor. This system type is also used in some vehicles because of the lack of need for electricity to operate a compressor motor. The gas that is normally used in these types of systems is ammonia.
