Installing Granite Countertops In Kitchen
The kitchen deserves much attention as it is believed that a kitchen is the center point of all the activities which take place in a home. However, matching the furniture to the kitchen design is important in order to create a harmony and unity in the room. Granite countertops are important for your kitchen design.
Although granite countertop is expensive but it still remains the premiere choice in many remodeled and new homes. The warmth and beauty of granite countertops has an aesthetic appeal which cannot be found in other materials for countertop.
However, granite countertops installation is not a do-it-yourself project for the homeowner. Granite countertops should be installed by the professionals who are provided with right equipment and training. If the homeowner seeks to save money on the cost of installation, then he/she can do so on some of the demolition work and preliminary preparation of installation by removing the old countertops and the sink. The remaining process of installation should be left for the professionals.
At first, an individual from Installation Company will come to measure the cabinetry and create templates for installation after the orders of granite countertops have been placed. The expert will tell you the location of the seams at the time of the creation of templates. They will also determine if any specialized tools will be needed for range cutouts and sink. Before the process of installation, plywood and metal rods will be added to the cabinetry top with additional support for range and sink.
Successful installation of granite countertops includes attention to the slab’s varying thickness. Slabs are cut carefully but still there may be low and high spots on bottom. So, leveling is important to keep the stone protected.
Installers later will bring granite slabs measuring about four-by-twelve feet or four-by-eight feet and have a thickness of about three centimeters only. The granite slabs can weigh about hundred pounds and should be carried properly to reduce stress on slab at the time of transportation. If the granite is not laid carefully on cabinetry, it could result in cracking up later on with regular use.
Granite slab will be cut precisely with diamond tip saw to fit the templates. Jointing seams will be sealed off and edge will be dealt to create an attractive and smooth premiere. Installer can also add separate signs of a solid color or metallic materials. The installer then will use a penetrating sealant and polish the surface. They will note the location of sink, electrical outlets, faucets because granite’s thickness may change some process for re-installing these items. Installers are coached for making adjustments to set a cook top and to re-secure the dishwasher stabilizer brackets with causing no harm to the newly installed granite countertop.
Installing granite countertop in kitchen should be left to the professionals. Don’t ever think this task to be a do-it-yourself project. Granite countertops installed properly turns out to be a valuable addition to the kitchen. So make it your choice if you are planning kitchen remodeling!
