The home to an astounding variety of birds, Ghana National Park is a paradise for bird lovers.It is internationally renowned for its bird’s population. It was once the hunting preserve for the Maharajas and the British. And today it occupies a special place as an important feed and breeding ground for the birds in the world. Boasting of more than 360 species of birds, the Park was earlier known as Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary. It is also a temporary home to the migratory birds such as Ducks, Pelicans, Eagles, Cranes, Flycatchers, Warblers Geese, Wagtails, Hawks, Shanks, Pipits Stints, Larks and Buntings etc. The endangered Siberian Crane are also sighted here during the winter season.
Ghana National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site which is best visited during the period between October to February. This destination is favored by bird lovers, nature lovers, naturalist and ornithologists from across the globe. Apart from being an abode of birds, the Park also boasts of a variety of wild animals such as wild Boar, Golden Jackal, Fishing Cat, Blackbuck, Jungle Cat, Sambar, Nilgai and Striped Hyaena.
A visit to this Park will take you to a different world altogether. The melodious chirping of the colorful birds, the views of a variety of birds, including migratory ones and other animals will surely leave you spell bound and with a feeling of being close to nature. However, the visitors are advised and requested not to make noise in the park.
Depending on your choice you can explore the Park on foot, cycle or rickshaw. Rickshaw and bicycle are available on rent. The rickshaw pullers are no less than a guide here as they receive training from the park management. The facility of a boat ride is also available inside the park. You can take a boat ride in the early morning or late evening. So are you ready with your binoculars to visit Ghana National Park! The Park remain open from morning to evening throughout the year.
There are some more attractions which you can explore while on your Ghana National Park tour: Bharatpur Government Museum, Bharatpur Palace and Deeg Palace and Lohagarh Fort.
