Trade Show Displays: Obtaining and Converting Your Leads
The whole point of trade show displays is to generate more business, greater interest in your organization, or get information to more people. I am a businessperson by nature, so naturally I tend to look at marketing efforts through that lens. This article is about getting more leads from a trade show and how to convert more of them. But that’s just business speak. Don’t discount these tips if your purpose is not ROI; generating interest or garnering support can be enhanced by simply taking these tips and modifying them to suit your goals.
Step 1: Getting Leads
What makes a good lead? You want someone who has some level of interest in your product or service or who has a certain pain point that needs remedy. So, in the timeframe of the show, you have to do two things: one, help them identify their need for the product, and two, get their information. That’s a lead.
So how can you do this? Anyone who pauses at your booth long enough to see your presentation or peruse your trade show displays is likely evaluating their need for your product. The better the presentation, the more dynamic the graphics, the more time someone is likely to spend at your booth. The longer they linger, the more likely they are to become a warmer lead or even purchase. So the first goal is to keep them there.
Now what? Okay, it’s great that you have them hooked with the display. But if they don’t convert right then and there, how can you remain in touch? You need their information. In this day and age, maybe just a name and an email are enough. Maybe a phone number too—this’ll depend on what your marketing activities are and how your clientele is comprised. It’s great if you can just get them to hand over the information. If not, they can enter a drawing for a prize—this is a double edged sword, you’ll get more leads, but it’ll be a mixed bag as far as interest and success.
If all else fails and you cannot easily get their information, just make sure they have yours. You can hand out business cards, promotional items, coupons, or whatever fits your business model.
Step 2: Converting Leads
Okay, if you have your list of warm leads from the trade show, what can you do with them? If there are contacts on your list that are high dollar/notable—get in touch personally and close that deal. If the rest are somewhere in the middle, you’ll be best served by having a marketing plan in place that pretty much runs like a machine. Get an email distributor to send out mass emails (also known as email blasts), like Constant Contacts® and set them up for regular emails. Get autodialing technology to make call and leave voicemails in record time on a regular basis. Get them on a plan that gets your company or organization in front of them on a regular basis. Also, make sure every phone call or email makes it easy for them to get in touch with you and convert.
