How to clean your Homemade Kegerator
Now that you have spent a little time and money, and your kegerator is up and running you need to take very good care of it.There are special KEGERATOR CLEANING KITS you can purchase, for around 25.00$ or so.
Over a period of time your beer lines, fittings, and taps will become covered in “calcium oxalate” which is a chemical compound that forms crystals, and starts to scale up on the inside of you beer lines, taps, and fittings. If you do not clean your kegerator bacteria will grow very quickly, causing a number of problems like beer taste different, foaming, or the worst make people sick.
All that you need to do is buy a Beer cleaning kit to get started, they will come with step-by-step instructions.
1} You will need to turn off and disconnect the CO2 regulator, then disconnect the keg coupler form the keg, disconnect the hoses from the regulator and the coupler, and then take off your tap and faucet from the kegerator. Take the hoses you removed from the regulator, and the keg coupler and put the ends in a bucket.
2} . You will also need to combine some water and cleaning solution together in a bowl. Here you will take your faucet, that you took off from the front of the kegerator and clean it in the bowl with the special brush that you will also get in the kit.( I would also take the drip tray and clean it in there also)
3} In the cleaning kit you will have a plastic quart jug and a tap. Here you will combine your water and cleaning solution together in the plastic quart jug. Connect the the cleaning jug to the faucet shank on your kegerator.
4} Pump the cleaning solution through the hoses and in the bucket. After you are finished, do it again but with clean water. You will want to do this a couple of times to be sure the lines are cleaned.
5} After you are finished flushing out the lines you can put it all back together.
That’s it, now you are finished. You should probably do this when you change the keg, or if you don’t change the keg that often then every half keg.
Now knowing that you have a clean Homemade Kegerator, relax and taste how much better your beer taste.
