What’s That Dollar Store Merchandise In The Window?
Many who are starting a dollar store focus all of their merchandise buying on items for the gondola shelving in each aisle of their dollar store. Next they add a little impulse merchandise for the cash register area. But in today’s market that isn’t enough. Bulk displays of merchandise must be added along walls and especially in the front windows of the store. In this article I focus on the front windows in your store. We will examine merchandise management for this important sales area of your store.
Purchase window display merchandise by the pallet. When starting a dollar store never lose sight of the importance of this area as a prime display area in your store. Make an impression on passers-by by bringing in palletized loads of popular items. Some dollar store suppliers offer pre-made pallets of merchandise just for display purposes. In other cases just take advantage of sales and specials from your wholesalers to create pallet sized displays yourself.
Add signs to grab the attention of passers-by inside and outside of the store. Don’t forget to add eye-catching signage. Make sure your signs face outward to catch the attention of prospective shoppers outside of your store as well as inward to draw those inside your store over to take a look. Spend time creating professional looking signs to maximize their effectiveness.
Rotate merchandise frequently. Build interest by rotating new items into the mix frequently. Taking this action will provide a new appearance across the front of your store. That new look will draw shoppers inside. They will be eager to take a look at the latest new merchandise. And of course that means more sales for your store as shoppers not only pick up one or two of the palletized items, but also add other items as well.
Never allow these displays to become low on dollar store merchandise. When starting a dollar store it is important to make a commitment to always keep these displays looking full. Often just a quick reface on all 4 sides of the pallet is all that you need to do. However as merchandise sells down, start preparing to rotate the remaining merchandise back into your normal display areas and replace it with new, different items.
