Importance of Your Thermostat
The thermostat in your Kia maintains engine coolant flow between the radiator and the engine. It’s what keeps a car from overheating and catching on fire or breaking down; and also what makes sure the engine warms quickly when you drive so that it runs more efficiently.
How to Know Your Thermostat Needs to Replacement
If you discover your Kia is overheating, you’ll need to replace your thermostat immediately. Running a car at too high of a temperature means the coolant isn’t circulating around the engine as necessary and your engine will be damaged. You’ll know it’s overheating if the temperature gauge is approaching the red area, or if you see smoke coming out from under your hood. Pull over, and don’t open your hood until the car has completely cooled off.
On the other hand, if your temperature gauge is reading much lower than normal, you could also need your thermostat replaced. When a car’s engine runs too cold, you’re losing fuel efficiency. If you need to run your car’s heater, you’ll find the heater won’t blow hot air.
